Purpose of the Role

To drive growth of the Bank's customer base by actively onboarding new retail and SME customers, opening bank accounts, and recruiting, onboarding, and supporting Bank Agents (Wakala) in assigned locations, in line with Bank of Tanzania (BOT) regulations and the Bank's policies.

Summary Of Key Duties And Responsibilities

1. Customer Account Onboarding

    Actively source and onboard new retail, SME, and micro-business customers.
    Educate customers on available bank products (savings, current accounts, digital banking, loans, cards, etc.).
    Collect, verify, and submit required KYC documentation in compliance with BOT and AML/CFT requirements.
    Ensure accurate completion of account opening forms and digital onboarding processes.
    Follow up to ensure accounts are activated and customers are successfully onboarded to digital channels (USSD, mobile banking, cards).
    Manage your onboarded portfolio of accounts.


2. Wakala (Bank Agent) Onboarding

    Identify, recruit, and onboard eligible individuals to become Bank Agents (Wakala).
    Conduct due diligence and collect required documentation for agent onboarding.
    Educate agents on agent banking products, transaction limits, float management, and compliance requirements.
    Support agents through activation, branding, and initial transactions.
    Monitor agent performance and escalate operational or compliance issues when required.


3. Merchant Onboarding

    Identify, recruit, and onboard eligible merchants to use MHB Lipa Chap.
    Conduct due diligence and collect required documentation for merchant onboarding.
    Educate merchants banking products, benefits of using Lipa Chap and compliance requirements.
    Support merchants through activation, branding, and initial transactions.
    Monitor merchant performance and escalate operational or compliance issues when required.


4. Sales & Market Development

    Conduct field visits, activations, and community engagement activities to promote the Bank's services.
    Meet and exceed assigned sales and onboarding targets for accounts and agents.
    Identify new market opportunities and provide feedback on customer needs and competitor activity.
    Maintain strong relationships with customers, agents, local leaders, and business communities.


5. Compliance & Reporting

    Ensure all onboarding activities comply with Bank policies, BOT regulations, and AML/CFT guidelines.
    Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly sales and onboarding reports.
    Maintain accurate records of customers and agents onboarded.
    Escalate suspicious activities in line with compliance procedures.


Qualifications & Experience

    Certificate or Diploma in Business Administration, Marketing, Banking, Finance, or a related field.
    Previous experience in sales, microfinance, banking, mobile money, or agent banking is an added advantage.
    Experience in field sales or community-based marketing preferred.


Skills & Competencies

    Strong sales and negotiation skills
    Good understanding of banking products and agent banking
    Knowledge of KYC and AML requirements
    Excellent communication skills in Swahili and basic English
    Ability to work independently in the field
    High level of integrity and professionalism
    Basic smartphone and digital literacy
