The School of St Jude is a 100% charity-funded education institution that provides free, high-quality primary and secondary scholarships to 1,800 of the poorest and brightest students in the Tanzanian region of Arusha.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach one or more National Curriculum subjects to students in one or more Year levels
  • Plan lessons in line with National Curriculum syllabus documents and in accordance with the school policy
  • Provide a learning environment which allows students to learn effectively and in which they are inspired to learn
  • Monitor and record the progress of the students and encourage them to develop and fulfill their academic potential
  • Keep up to date with developments in the subject area, with new resources, teaching methodologies and national objectives.
  • Liaise and collaborate with colleagues
  • Fully support the work of the department and fulfill the school’s mission and purpose
  • Research new topics and maintain up-to-date subject knowledge

Student Management

  • Minimum of a Bachelor Degree in Education majoring in Accounting or any other related field from a recognized College or University
  • Must have minimum 3 years of working experience

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work well in a team environment
  • Willingness to work flexible hours
  • Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, using proper grammar and vocabulary
  • Demonstrate excellent organizational skills and the ability to motivate students
  • Have excellent integrity and demonstrate good moral character and initiative

We are seeking to recruit an Agronomist to be based in USA, Arusha Region, Tanzania at the School of St Jude.

Job Purpose

  • Regular field checks
  • Insect, weed & disease monitoring / diagnostics
  • Soil moisture status monitoring
  • Irrigation scheduling
  • Ag chemical, fertilizer & seed recommendations
  • Soil sampling
  • Equipment calibration
  • Crop rotation planning and hybrid/variety selection recommendations
  • Detailed computerized field reports & permanent record keeping
  • Crop budgeting & planning
  • Management of casual farmers
  • To perform any other task assigned to you by your Manager

Skills and Attributes

  • Proficient computer skills – Microsoft Office software, email, internet, spread sheets
  • Good diagnostic and decision making skills
  • Proven ability to effectively communicate – verbal & written skills
  • Ability to work independently and proceed with objectives without close supervision
  • Desire to work with students in various agricultural activities
  • Willingness to work as a team member
  • Desire to remain updated with new agricultural trends and technology
  • Self-motivation, willingness to learn and good work ethic
  • Ability to work outside during heat of day

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture with emphasis on agronomy, crop, soil, weed management, ag business, or other ag science course work
  • More than 3 years experience in agronomy
  • Applicants with backgrounds in agriculture and living in USA will have advantages

Job Purpose

  • Responsible for assisting the development and success of the Beyond St Jude’s Program of Community Service and Tertiary studies for St Jude’s graduates

Key Responsibilities

  • Liaising with students, local government schools and St Jude’s departments to organise Community Service placements
  • Organising the annual Work Readiness workshop training
  • Mentoring interns during their Community Service Year placements
  • Maintaining accurate database records in respect to each student/intern
  • Educating St Jude’s students about the program
  • Update all business, academic leaders and school boards on Beyond St Jude’s initiatives
  • Assist students with Career Guidance, University, scholarship and loan applications
  • Work with the 3 other members of the Beyond St Jude team and to perform any other duties as requested by Founder

Essential

  • Diploma in Education

Skills and Competence

  • Experience working with the Department of Education
  • Knowledge of government schools
  • Good computer skills
  • Excellent written, oral communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Organizational skills, good time management and ability to work independently

Qualifications, Skills & Attributes

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Studies or its relevant from a recognized institution
  • Minimum of two years Secondary teaching experience
