Key Responsibilities

Job Purpose

The position holder is responsible for identifying, forming, and nurturing clients in groups for weekly and bi-weekly loan products. This includes mobilizing and educating potential clients on savings, credit, and insurance services, and ensuring all group members clearly understand product features, loan terms, and responsibilities. The role involves conducting group-based Saving sensitization, insurance sensitization and credit assessments, verifying members’ business activities and repayment capacity, and presenting qualified groups to the credit hub for approval. Further the position holder is responsible for organizing regular weekly/biweekly group meetings, monitoring saving activities, insurance needs, loan utilization, providing financial education, and ensuring timely collections. The role also focuses on maintaining portfolio quality, resolving repayment challenges early, and building strong, trust-based relationships with clients and community leaders.

Main Responsibility.

Part A: Banking Activities: Sales of Saving and Insurance Products

Duties

Relationship Officer is accountable for driving the sale and promotion of savings and insurance products to both existing and prospective clients. Key duties include:

  • Product Promotion & Cross-Selling: Actively promote VFT’s insurance (both life, motor, hospi-cash etc.) and savings products alongside loan offerings to provide comprehensive financial solutions to customers.
  • Needs-Based Selling: Identify client financial needs and match them with appropriate savings and insurance products.
  • Client Education: Educate customers on benefits, features, and terms of insurance and savings products to support informed decision-making.
  • Sales Targets: Achieve monthly/quarterly targets for insurance and savings product sales as set by branch or business center management.
  • Documentation & Compliance: Ensure all insurance and savings product sales are properly documented and comply with internal policies and external regulations.
  • Claims Handling: Support clients through the insurance claims process, acting as a liaison between the client and insurance officer/manager.
  • Intermediary Role: Take ownership of the end-to-end process of risk placement and claims management for life and non-life insurance through the bank.
  • Customer Retention: Engage with clients regularly to encourage sustained use of savings products and renewal of insurance policies.
  • Takes responsibility as an insurance intermediary for both life and non-life incurred and reported claims with the end-to-end claims processes.
  • Arranges competitive placement of insurance covers through insurers on the Bank’s Bancassurance panel.
  • Complies with VFT Bancassurance Policy, Manual and all availed Bank manuals that directly or indirectly support the Bancassurance function.

Part B: Lending Activities

  • Primarily to conduct market /household survey to identify potential clients in identified area
  • Formation of groups and client recruitment
  • Screen clients according to the loan products eligibility criteria
  • Carries out Business visit to clients with a view to verifying if the business produces a regular income to enable the client to pay back the loan.
  • Loan disbursement to qualified clients according to targets provided
  • Achieves targets for number of clients and size of portfolio
  • Maintains target portfolio quality as measured by PAR
  • To attend group meetings every week/bi-week for collection in the Morning and afternoon conducting survey/Promotion and other follow ups
  • During collection, ensuring all clients installment sheets are well filled
  • Provides welcoming and supportive service to all clients
  • Prepares and assesses loan applications
  • Conducts immediate follow ups of all late payments, observing a policy of zero- tolerance for delinquency
  • Provides client training and other important communications from Bank to Clients, from client to Bank
  • Ensures that clients complete all other collateral requirements as per the set policies according to the loan products
  • Submit the loan applications to the Loan officer supervisor for further preceding
  • Ensures a good VFT ambassador to the public and at all-time keeps & sales good image of the Bank.
  • Develop & maintains good working relations with client
  • Advice branch/business center on clients complains and other customer care related issues
  • Solve, seek for solutions of clients need as per policy
  • Keeps himself and others safe and secured, reports accidences
  • Plans and book leave schedule and ensures to takes leave timely
  • Keep and maintains respect and Christian values all the time as well as VFT-core values and reports any violations.
  • Attends and participates on devotions and other staff social welfare
  • Participate in forming a strong team spirit with Christian Values
  • Ensures timely submission to Branch/business center daily and weekly reports
  • Reports unethical behavior around to the audit and investigator
  • Implements and communicate audit issues

Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Microfinance, Business administration, Banking and Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, Finance, Community development, Agribusiness or any related field.

Experience

Good working knowledge of financial procedures and applications.

Understanding of banking practice and related policy issues, their implications and applications.

Knowledge of credit operations and Management
