Summary: The U.S. Mission in Dar es Salaam is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the position of General Services Assistant (FAP) in the General Service Office Section.

Supervisory Position: No

Duties

 Basic Function Of Position: 

  • Responsible for the ordering, storage, distribution, inventory, disposal, and maintenance of residential furniture and appliances. Incumbent serves as an incidental operator of official vehicles and meets all requirements outlined in 14 FAM 433.


Major Duties and Responsibilities: Ordering and disposal of furniture:60%

Develop and follow life cycle plan to ensure that adequate residential furniture and appliances (according to the Furniture and Appliance Pool policy) are available for the 120 residences.  The plan will include the ordering and disposal of furniture to ensure that post is not overstocked with furniture and that furniture is rotated.  Prepare reports, spreadsheets, and other documentation as necessary for the GSO or Management Officer. This responsibility requires driving a GOV at least 15 hours per week.


Preparation of accurate inventories for arrival/departures: 20%

  • Prepare accurate inventories for arrival/departures and ensure collection from employees that damage furniture through negligence or from pet damage.  Ensure that residences are adequately, but not overly furnished.  Oversee the removal of damaged furniture and appliances.  Ensure that the welcome kit is in place and is adequate to the needs of the in-coming family.


Proper receipt, storage, and disposal of furniture: 20% 

  • Ensure proper receipt, storage, and disposal of furniture.  Make recommendations to adjust FAP inventory to encourage efficiencies and to save money.  Ensure that used appliances have been serviced between tenants and that appliances returned to the warehouse are in good working order.  Adjudicate requests/complaints from tenants—solving where possible, and escalating where necessary.


Qualifications and Evaluations

Requirements:

EXPERIENCE: Four years experience in logistics management or warehouse operations is required.

JOB KNOWLEDGE: Warehouse management, inventory procedures, logistics management.


Education Requirements:

Education: Two years of college/university studies is required.


Evaluations:

LANGUAGE: Level IV (fluent) (writing, reading and speaking) in English and Kiswahili is required.


SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Very good interpersonal and organizational skills; Advanced in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Power point. Must have a valid, current Class A Driver’s License for a vehicle. Must have had a valid driver’s license for a minimum of five (5) years.
