THE ROLE

Dr Charles Kimei has been Managing Director of CRDB for over 20 years and announced that he is to retire in May 2019. The Bank is therefore seeking to recruit a Tanzanian national as Managing Director.
Reporting to the Chairman and the Board, the Managing Director shall be responsible for leading the strategic direction and commercial performance of The Bank, whilst also building strong relationships with customers, the regulator and the public.
The Managing Director will:
  • Be a role model for people-focused, engaging, transformative leadership;
  • Create a customer-centric culture that drives innovation, e.g. through using technology to build customer value;
  • Be credible, influential and well-networked with a broad range of external stakeholders including shareholders, regulators, government;
  • Encourage and reward talent development across the bank to build, attract and retain talented capability for the workforce of the future;
  • Effectively drive further cost efficiencies out of the business whilst engaging people through a significant change journey;
  • Navigate the volatility of the markets and the disruptive and evolving competitor landscape;
  • Drive organic growth through customer acquisition and the product mix;
  • Actively identify and evaluate acquisitive or transformative growth opportunities;
  • Leverage the existing brand whilst repositioning the bank for broader national growth.
The successful candidate will be a self-motivated, credible, and highly capable and inspiring leader. Candidates will have high levels of energy, pragmatism, and commitment. 
They will also have demonstrable ability in influencing diverse groups and work well in an achievement-based environment.
Well-developed leadership and management skills will be combined with a high EQ, an open and inclusive approach to business, and the ability to work as a natural team player at executive management level.
THE PROFILE
  • A minimum of 15 years’ experience in a senior executive leadership position in a large Financial Services organisation, with familiarity with banking operations and banking Regulatory Framework;
  • Experience in developing profitable strategies and implementing a vision;
  • A strong understanding of corporate finance and performance management principles;
  • In-depth knowledge of corporate governance and general management best practices;
  • A business mindset and be able to see the “big picture” in a variety of settings;
  • A commercial individual who can enhance the Bank’s cash flow while keeping the human factor in perspective;
  • Good experience in Business and Organisational development;
  • An entrepreneurial mindset with outstanding organisational and leadership skills;
  • Analytical abilities and problem-solving skills;
  • Excellent communication and public speaking skills;
  • A good understanding of the advances in digital banking and in enabling technology;
  • Impeccable levels of integrity;
  • A bachelors degree in any Business, Economics, Banking, Commerce, and Finance related fields and possession of a Master’s degree will be an added advantage;
  • Be a Tanzanian national, based currently in Tanzania or overseas.
