CHILD SAFEGUARDING AND GENDER COORDINATOR AT SAVE THE CHILDREN

ChildSafeguarding:

Level 3: the role holder will have contact with children and/or young people either frequently (e.g. once a week or more) or intensively (e.g. four days in one month or more or overnight) because they work in country programs; or are visiting country programs; ore because they are responsible for implementing the police checking/vetting process staff.

ROLE PURPOSE:
The role holder will be responsible for adapting and implementing strong child safeguarding systems on effective Child Safeguarding standards, reporting, monitoring and share learning that safeguard beneficiaries, partners and the organization at large. S/he works under the supervision of Senior HR and Admin Manager to build the capacity of partners and country office staff in child safeguarding including supporting the development of child safeguarding policies for our partners.
The CSG and Gender Coordinator will provide strategic input and guidance on gender across all thematic areas of Save the Children country programming (Health and nutrition, Child protection, Education and Emergency response) and will lead in updating the country gender equality analysis, development of gender equality strategic plan, staff capacity building and will work with other staff to ensure that gender equality is systematically mainstreamed into programs during implementation, monitoring and reporting of program activities. The position will take lead in coordinating with relevant Ministries across thematic areas to ensure that Save the Children is actively engaged in gender technical; working groups and relevant policy, that advocate and address gender development and equality issues

SCOPE OF ROLE:
Reports to: Senior HR and Admin Manager

Scope of role: Save the Children has been operational in Tanzania since 1986 providing support to children through developmental and humanitarian relief programmes delivered in support of Government of Tanzania priorities and policies both directly and through local partners. Current programming focuses on child protection, child rights governance, education, nutrition, HIV/TB and emergency response. We currently have an operational presence in Dodoma and Singida, Shinyanga, Zanzibar, Songwe and Kigoma and we work through partners in other parts of the country.

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

Gender:
Ensure all staff are aware and oriented on gender equality in Save the Children programming context
Support Country Office teams to integrate gender equality strategies into program/project objectives and initiatives
Facilitating gender capacity building for field teams via training and/or tool development.
Collaborate with peers and participate in relevant gender working groups in relevant ministries to achieve thematic outcomes
Assess current Country Office capacity in gender-sensitive and transformative programming and update country gender strategy as relevant
support the development and implementation of training technical support workshops to build capacity of Country Offices and partners to design and implement quality programs that are gender sensitive and ensures gender equality
Ensure gender is mainstreamed in project/program implementation where relevant
Ensure gender is mainstreamed in monitoring , evaluation and reporting of project/program activities
Keep the country staff office updated in emerging gender equality and transformative issues such as government policies and strategies

Child Safe Guarding:

Identify and address training needs of staff and stakeholders in relation to keeping children safe
Arrange for ongoing capacity building of staff in general child safeguarding issues, through formal training, discussion of case studies, refresher sessions, etc.
Coordinate and mobilise stakeholders to undergo training in Child Safeguarding
Conduct training in Child Safeguarding and policy development for key stakeholders (Gvt and partners)
Develop and prepare materials for all Child Safeguarding related trainings
Prepare all logistical arrangements leading to CSG trainings in Dar and all field offices.
Coordinate employees trained in TOT and ensure that they are implementing strong child safeguarding systems to partners and the organization at large
Provide technical guidance on Child Safeguarding to CSF focal persons, partners and other key stakeholders including consultants
Conduct supervision and monitoring visits to the field for quality assurance
Develop CSG activity reports and trainings plans and share with all focal persons for implementation.
Maintain all CSG reports and file appropriately
Provide technical support and make follow up on finalisation of Child Safe Guarding Policies for partners
Maintain clear records of number of staff, partners and other parties trained in Child Safeguarding

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
A University degree in the social sciences or relevant subject, at least five years in capacity building and technical assistance provision to Government, NGOs/CBOs;
Experience in child protection/child safeguarding practice; including work and vulnerable children and managing issues.
In depth understanding of children’s issues in Tanzania, demonstrable commitment to Children’s Rights, coordinated care, case management and, child development processes and practices in Tanzania;
Good data management, data analysis skills;
Ability to communicate complete and sensitive information to a wide and diverse audience
Ability to foster and maintain strategic alliances across multiple stakeholders;
Strong experience and ability to facilitate training to a diverse audience (in terms of education, language ability…)
Willingness to travel to and work in hard-to-reach areas; computer literacy and excellent documentation and report writing skills in English are a must;
Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills including influencing, negotiation and coaching.
