FRESHWATER COORDINATOR


WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature), the international conservation organization, is seeking a competent and motivated Programme Coordinator for its Freshwater Programme, to be based in Dar es Salaam.

Major Function: The purpose of this assignment is to address the most harmful impacts on freshwater and to support public and private policy that promotes better water management across Tanzania and, in conjunction with other WWF offices, across Eastern Africa.
Main Tasks: Provide intellectual leadership for, and ensure a strategic approach to, WWF Tanzania’s work on testing, demonstrating and informing water resource management policy and practice; Ensure this strategic approach contributes to the WWF Global Programme Framework and the Freshwater Practice including long-term goals for biodiversity conservation and footprint reduction. Working in collaboration with the TCO Monitoring and Evaluation Officer, develop and implement an effective monitoring and evaluation plan for the programme with a strong focus on measuring and delivering conservation and livelihood outcomes and impacts. Develop and lead the delivery of a coordinated advocacy strategy on public and private policy linked to water basin projects; Maintain and build relationships and formal partnerships with targeted champions in Tanzania-based private sector companies, government and interest groups; Strategic support, management oversight and technical guidance for WWF Tanzania freshwater projects; Develop project concepts, In collaboration with the Communications Manager (TCO) and the Fundraising Manager coordinate WWF’s communications and fundraising efforts around freshwater; Guide the WWF Tanzania management in progressing WWF’s wider efforts on freshwater conservation, climate change, sustainable consumption etc.
Requirements: Master Degree in relevant discipline such as Hydrology or, Integrated Water Resources Management; or other relevant subject such as environmental studies. At least 8 years of experience in conservation work related to water management issues, especially around water rights, climate change adaptation, infrastructure development, agriculture and ecosystem conservation; Strong policy analysis and strategic thinking skills; a track record of constructive advocacy with senior decision-makers in the Ministries, and of influencing the outcomes of policy debates; Very, good oral and verbal communication skills in Kiswahili and English.
