Pet Care House Veterinary Clinic, located in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania is seeking a Full-Time Veterinarian to join our friendly and motivated team. The successful applicant will be settling into a friendly and vibrant mixed Tanzanian and expatriate environment, well supported by a clinic manager, a Tanzanian Veterinarian, two receptionists and vet nurses. At Pet Care House, we value our team members and strive to make each position positive and rewarding. We are constantly striving to improve our practice. Special interests and continuing education is encouraged and supported.
What We Are Looking For: We are seeking a highly motivated, experienced veterinarian who wants to make a difference. Our ideal candidate is a veterinarian with proven medical and surgical skills; an interest in community animal welfare is necessary. The successful applicant will be expected to work 5 days a week with a rotating emergency on-call schedule. The applicant should be open to travelling within our beautiful country of Tanzania.

Our Clinic: Our practice is home to a purpose built clinic that is equipped with soon to come computerized radiology, in-house biochemistry, specialized small animal medicine and handpicked small animal products from around the world. We are located on the east coast of Tanzania, a 2 minute drive from the Indian Ocean and an hour ferry to Zanzibar.

Animal Welfare: Pet Care House Veterinary Clinic is also partners with 'Every Living Thing’ Animal Sanctuary which is home to over 100 rescued dogs and cats. We see all the shelter patients which is a large part of the job We believe in our work and are driven by our passion to make a difference. Our clinic plays a large role in the welfare of the animals in the community and thus the successful candidate will be involved in veterinary outreach programs, capacity building through the training of Tanzanian Veterinary School graduates and hosting vet students and volunteers from abroad. We experience a wide and varied caseload, which will contribute to the candidate’s development.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Must be able to handle a wide variety of animals effectively and in a humane manner.
  • Must be open to learning a new culture but also comfortable acting as a mentor to
    Tanzanian Veterinarian professionals.
  • Deals with a variety of animal species in a multitude of the environmental
    circumstances;
  • The workweek will consist of 4 days per week, ranging from Monday to Saturday and
    includes after hours emergencies and house calls.
  • Must be able to utilize time management effectively;
  • Effectively communicate with clients about case management, diagnosis, prognosis,
    advice and follow-up;
  • Keep thorough, comprehensive and detailed medical records in compliance with all
    laws/regulations and collaborate with administrative staff to ensure proper collection
    of data;
  • Assist in the development of the paraprofessional team to ensure the delivery of the
    highest quality care and exceptional client service;
  • Positively represent Pet Care House in the professional community and to the general
    public;
  • Keeps aware of new products and pharmaceuticals. Maintains strict control of all
    drugs. Completes electronic records efficiently;
  • Keeps current in the veterinary field (reads journals and attends seminars);
  • Must maintain a good attendance record.
  • Must be open and enthusiastic about hosting volunteer vets from abroad
  • Must be happy and enthusiastic about working to improve veterinary standards in
    Tanzania through capacity building, training and outreach.
