WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature) Tanzania – the International Conservation Organization - is seeking a competent and motivated Deputy Project Coordinator for its Fisheries Co-management Project to be based in Dar
es Salaam, Tanzania.   
 
Main Tasks: The Deputy Project Co-ordinator is responsible for supporting the Project Co-ordinator in the management of the WWF TCO Fisheries Co-management Project, including the Rufiji-Mafia-Kilwa (RUMAKI) Seascape Project. The Deputy Project Co-ordinator assumes responsibility for assisting the Project Co-ordinator in day-to-day co-ordination and management of the Project, ensuring the Project’s personnel and financial resources are used in an effective, accountable and consultative manner, and ensuring that work plans are planned and implemented to deliver expected outputs and objectives. Assist the Project Co-ordinator  to coordinate ongoing implementation of the WWF TCO Fisheries Co-management Project (including RUMAKI Seascape Project) ensuring the delivery of agreed objectives and outputs outlined in Project documents and grant agreements; in a consultative and collaborative manner with national, district and community stakeholders and other relevant partners; Assist the Project Co-ordinator  to provide technical input on the planning, design and implementing a range of marine resources management initiatives under the WWF TCO Marine Programme (including RUMAKI Seascape Project)  designed to improve the sustainability of marine resources, and to conserve, marine habitats and species under threat, including;

  • Promoting fisheries co-management activities at community level;
  • Facilitating control of illegal fishing activities and promoting sustainable fishing techniques;
  • Encouraging livelihood initiatives including feasibility studies and trials on mariculture and innovative fishing techniques;
  • Supporting capacity building in micro-enterprise and business planning relevant to marine resource-use;
  • Facilitating support for protection of threatened species
  • Awareness raising initiatives relevant to the above.
  • Private sector stakeholders including the tourism, energy and fisheries processing and marketing sectors;
 
Requirement:

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in natural resources management, preferably specializing in fisheries or marine and coastal management; Masters’ degree is preferable;
  • At least four (4) years relevant professional technical experience in fisheries co-management especially development of beach management units [BMUs], coastal resources management, sustainable coastal livelihoods, micro-finance, community capacity-building & awareness, marine protected area management, marine species conservation and relevant fisheries monitoring and research;
  • Experience in a project leadership position including budget oversight preferred; with skills in team-building, project planning and co-ordination, monitoring and evaluation, developing partner relations and staff management;
  • A proven ability to work effectively without direct supervision, working in a team and willing to travel regularly and to stay for periods in remote coastal areas.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both Kiswahili and English.
  • High level of computer literacy, technical report writing in English and data analysis.
