History
History of Meru District Council
Meru District Council established formal government announcement Number 353 of 2007 following the decision of the delegate was Arumeru District Council to establish two District Council independent of Meru and Arusha.

Meru District Council has begun to implement its responsibilities as a council independent from the financial year 2007/2008. Thus it is evident Council has potentials in its infancy and therefore many challenges of day to day operational and effective delivery of social and economic to its residents.

Meru District Council is committed to creating a better environment in providing economic and social services with the highest quality standard in terms of effectiveness and focused on using resources to focus on the core of good governance in a better life for its citizens.

To have a Community Livelihood with improved and sustainable by the year 2025.

Meru District Council is committed to create conducive environment in order to Provide Economic socio-quality services to its community through effective and efficient use of resources and good Governance for improved Livelihood.


HEALTH TREATMENT

The Department continues to implement its obligations in accordance with guidelines provided by the Ministry of Health, Social Development, Gender, Elderly and Children and implement strategic health plan 2015 -2020. In order to ensure citizens have access to appropriate treatment.

Education Service

Primary Education
Meru district council has a total of 143 primary school and 112 of them are owned by Government and 31 are owned by individuals. Also there are a total of 101 classrooms for Pre-Unit owned by the Government. There are also Vocational Training Centers (VETA) to four (three are owned by Government and one is Private), Four TRCs (TCRS)  and five Special Education Centers.Secondary Education
Meru District Council, there are a total of 55 Secondary Schools and of these 29 are owned by Government and 26 are owned by Individuals. Of the three state schools have a high school that is Maji ya  Chai Secondary School, Kisimiri Secondary School and Makiba Secondary School.
