POST OF THE DIRECTOR GENERAL OF THE ENERGY AND WATER UTILITES REGULATORY AUTHORITY (EWURA)

The Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority (EWURA) is an independent regulatory authority responsible for licensing, (tariff setting and quality of service regulation of electricity, water, petroleum and natural gas sectors. The position of the Director General of EWURA Will fall vacant in January 2018, and the Chairman of the Nomination Committee now invites suitably qualified candidates to apply for this position.

Reporting and Responsibilities Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Director General of EWURA is responsible for the day to day operations of the Authority. Specifically, the responsibilities of the Director General are:

• To oversee effective and efficient implementation of the provisions of EWURA Act, legislations relevant to regulated sectors and other such laws, rules and regulations.
• To provide direction and leadership towards achievement of the Authority vision, mission, business strategy, annual goals and- objectives;
• To advise and inform the Board on regulated sectors; support activities and other matters;
• To oversee designing, promotion and delivery of quality products and services by the Authority;
• To prudently manage the Authority's resources within approved budget guidelines, policies, laws and regulations;
• To ensure that the Authority consistently presents strong and positive image to stakeholders and the public;
• To maintain cost effective operational environment for motivating employees for optimal performance, and
• To undertake any other duties as assigned by the Board of Directors and other appropriate authorities.

Required Qualifications and Skills are

• At least bachelor's degree from a recognized university:
• At least ten years' work experience in one or more of the fields of management, law, economics, finance or engineering;
• Knowledge and experience in managing EWURA regulated sector utilities; 
• A good record of achievements in her/his previous career;
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills
• No conflict of interest as stated in Section 12 of the EWURA Act;
• Willingness to serve as Director General;
