The President of the United Republic of Tanzania issued a Notice on assignment of Ministerial responsibilities (Instrument) vide Government Notice No.494 of 17th December, 2010.  In that
Instrument, the President has created a Ministry of Health and Social Welfare which is mandated for formulation of health and social welfare policies and monitoring and evaluating their implementation as well as ensuring that all Tanzanians access quality health and social welfare services.   Vision Health and social welfare services of high quality, effective, accessible and affordable, delivered by a well performing and sustainable national health and welfare system that encourages responsiveness to the needs of the people.   Mission To facilitate the provision of equitable and effective health and social welfare services by formulating policies and guidelines, delivered by an adequate, competent and well motivated human resource to improve the health and well being of the public with emphasis on those most at risk.   Roles The Ministry of Health & Social Welfare is responsible for the following. Formulation of Health related policies and Provision of: Hospital services Preventive services Chemical management services Forensic science services Food and drug quality services Reproductive Health services Promotion of traditional medicine. Inspection of health services. Participating in international health and medical organizations. Developing human resource under the Ministry. Overseeing extra ministerial development parastatal and projects under the Ministry. Supervising government agencies under the Ministry.
