Purpose of the position:
The Senior Communications Officer –supports the management communication function in keeping the World Vision employees at every level connected, informed on positive developments in the organization and supports the process of explaining and building shared understanding of the mission and vision of World Vision Tanzania. He/she is responsible for managing, developing products and tools facilitating channels of communication that promote information sharing and learning. The incumbent is also responsible for maintaining, updating and promoting the World Vision Tanzania website to internal and external audiences, especially donors. He/she will also develop and disseminate key communications resources for marketing, public awareness and management of emergencies.
The position is further responsible for supporting planning, development and delivery of World Vision communications strategy. He/she will oversee implementation of the communications brand policy for external and internal publics. Effective development of communications resources for external audiences, in the form of print publications and videos comprise one of the key roles. He/she will build capacity of key staff to improve effective communication within the organization. The incumbent is also responsible for promoting public visibility of the organization as well as building relations with media. This position will report to the Communications Manager.
The Senior Communications Officer will collaborate with:
The ND’s office.
Senior Leadership Team, Department Heads and Managers.
Area Development Program Block Leaders and Cluster Team Leaders.
The incumbent will also observe the mission and core values of World Vision and demonstrate a quality of spiritual life that is an example to others.
Major Responsibilities
Support development and roll-out of the internal and external communications framework, clearly identifying the messages, stakeholders, and channels of communications with a clear work-plan and budget to guide implementation.
Promote positive visibility within media channels, protect the image and reputation of the organization and build and maintain relationships with the media. Also provide support to visits of international media and other groups to WVT project sites.
Support generation of content for internal and external publications including: staff newsletter; annual report production, fact-sheets, capacity statements, calendars, diaries, Intranet, WVCentral platforms and Connections.
Reinforce strong brand presence and ensure application and consistency of WVI communications brand policy across all internal and external products and materials.
Develop resources as part of documentation (i.e. impact stories, videos and photos) to share on Support Office platforms, WVT intranet and website and for all staff usage.
Build capacity of WVT non-communicators in: story-telling, video capturing, photo-taking; and provide support to roll-out Sponsorship 2.0 and Community Introductory Videos for an enhanced donor experience.
Create content, update and maintain the WVT organizational website as a marketing platform for donor audiences. Also develop and maintain a photo database with an effective storage system.
Produce emergency communications messaging and products (web based situation reports, stories and photos) and ensure internal audiences are informed and updated in a timely manner.
Perform any other tasks as requested by the Communications Manager.
Qualifications: Education/Knowledge/Technical Skills and Experience
The following may be acquired through a combination of formal or self-education, prior experience or on-the-job training:
Minimum Qualification required: BA in journalism or communications/public relations from an Accredited University/college.
Experience: Minimum of 4 years working experience part of which in an international context.
Preferred Qualification: Working experience an NGO, journalism or communications/public relations.
Technical skills/Abilities
English language fluency (written and verbal)
Excellent writing skills, with photographic and/or video skills also preferred
Ability to maintain effective working relationships with all levels of staff and public
High level of confidence and confidentiality
Ability to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines and yet be able to deliver high quality products
Experience in emergency communication and communication for grants acquisition will be an added advantage

Working Environment / Conditions:
Work environment: Office-based with frequent travel to the field
Travel: 30% Local travel is required.

Purpose of the position:
THRIVE Pamoja Project aims to enhance the resilience at the household and community level in the WVT Babati Cluster through strengthened food security and livelihood opportunities. Founded on the principles of Empowered World View, the project is designed to address the End to End Business of Farming, Natural Resource Management and Shocks, Emergencies and Situational Awareness Systems. In pursuit of this aim, the project is designed to strengthen agricultural and livestock production; strengthen livelihood opportunities and value chains critical to food security; improve water management, irrigation and land use techniques; strengthen market access and functionality; and facilitate shocks and emergencies awareness in the Babati Cluster
Under the direct supervision of the Integrated Programmes Director, the Chief of Party is responsible for the overall vision and leadership of the program, and is accountable for delivering results.
Duties and responsibilities:
Programme Management
Provide strategic direction and overall supervision and successful implementation of the program.
Develop and oversee program work plans (interim and annual) and budgets based on expected program outputs and results, and using an adaptive management approach; track performance monitoring analysis and apply course correction.
Liaise and consult with the donor, acting as the main representative and principal interlocutor, and maintaining a productive working relationship with donor.
Manage partnerships with partner organizations, local contractors, local ministries and municipalities, and civil society organizations.
Ensure that programming is implemented in accordance with World Vision best practice.
Human Resource Management
Manage recruitment of national staff and ensure that all internal administrative and HR policies and procedures are followed in accordance with established World Vision and donor standard practices.
Monitor direct report performance based on job descriptions and agreed objectives and ensure that all programme staff with supervisory responsibilities do the same.
Supervise performance and provide support to local and international consultants, sub-contractors, and sub-grantees.
Ensure staff comply with World Vision Financial Policies and Practice.
Senior Organizational Management
Cultivate opportunities to leverage program financing and expand program impact.
Ensure sound administrative practices with regards to record keeping, compliance with the donor and World Vision regulations, communications, etc.
Administer the project’s financial resources in accordance with project budget, donor, and World Vision policy.
Fulfil all donor and World Vision reporting requirements.
Ensure regular communication between World Vision offices in the region this will include international travel and submitting required program reports in an agreed-upon format.
Coordinate activities internally with other World Vision programs in Tanzania, and with other donors.
Qualifications: Education/Knowledge/Technical Skills and Experience
This position demands a dynamic individual with a demonstrated ability to achieve results in a demanding and fast paced environment.
A Master’s degree (equivalent) or higher in agriculture, international development, or another relevant field.
At least 7 years’ experience in humanitarian or international development field.
Substantial experience managing complex, multi-year USAID or other international donor-funded programs.
Demonstrated technical leadership in multi-sectoral agriculture programming, with an emphasis on livelihood interventions, gender and women’s empowerment, social and behavior change communication, and agriculture and livestock in drought prone regions.
Relevant experience in managing projects of size and scope, in developing countries.
Strong ability to manage and deal with diverse stakeholders.
Demonstrated ability to lead and manage a diverse team on projects of similar scale (financially, culturally, staff size and activities).
Demonstrated strong writing and oral presentation skills in English.
Dynamic and willing to take initiatives to complete assigned task, and work independently.
Strong leadership skills and ability to manage change effectively.
Excellent communication and presentation skills.
Delegation, time management and prioritizing skills and coping with broad range of demands.
High level of critical thinking and proven high quality analytical skills and problem solving abilities.
