Job description
The Tanzanian Children’s Fund is seeking two ESOL teachers/teacher trainers to work in ruralTanzania, supporting teachers and learners in the two local government schools which we are in partnership with: Gyetighi Primary School and Oldeani Secondary School.
- Management of the ESOL program at Gyetighi Primary School or Oldeani Secondary School (One ESOL teacher/teacher trainer will be assigned to each school).
- Planning, preparing and delivering lessons for both teachers and students addressing a wide range of classes and age groups;
- Assisting the Education Director in leading professional development seminars
- Proofreading and proctoring tests, examination papers, and exercises;
- Observing teachers’ lessons and providing feedback and advising teachers on best teaching practices, strategies to promote student-centered learning, and how to deliver engaging lesson plans;
- Devising, writing and producing new ESOL materials;
- Leading and creating lesson plans for extra-curricular school activities;
- Leading computer training classes in Microsoft Word and Excel for selected primary and secondary school teachers;
- Providing one-on-one academic and career counseling to secondary school graduates at RVCV;
- Planning and leading an 8-week intensive English course to prepare primary school students for the transition to secondary school;
- Advising RVCV volunteers on appropriate educational resources and activities for various age groups
- Are native English speakers
- Can commit to one year of living and working in a remote area
- Take initiative in a professional environment with minimal supervision, and are able to design and deliver original lessons with limited resources
- Have earned a Bachelor’s Degree and a teaching certification for TEFL
- Have a minimum of 2 years teaching experience
- Have worked/studied/lived overseas or taught in cross-cultural contexts
- Have experience in creating needs-based curricula and syllabi
- Possess a strong work ethic
- Thrive in a small, close-knit community
- Enjoy engaging with children, faculty and volunteers in both formal and informal capacities
- Approach challenges with a positive outlook
- Possess a strong sense of cultural competency, intuition, and empathy
- Have some knowledge of Swahili or East African culture/history
- Be part of a small grassroots non-profit that is having a huge impact in the lives of children and in the wider community, through holistically addressing the root causes of poverty

BENEFITS
- $650 monthly stipend ($7,800 a year)
- $2,000 travel stipend per year
- Room and Board including private apartment, all meals, internet, local phone, and housekeeping support; transport to town as needed.
