Description
The Advocacy Officer is primarily responsible for translating policy platforms into effective advocacy actions Zanzibar Association of Tourism Investors (ZATI) and tourism industry partners.
The advocacy officer reports to Executive Director and will put emphasis on implementing projects that are supported by developing partners. Specifically, he/she will specifically engage in the following:
- Developing advocacy projects that are raised through the members of ZATI support to improve the tourism environment in Zanzibar.
- Initiating engagement with other PSOs to explore partnership opportunities in support of ZATI objectives and activities
- Identifying and promoting joint advocacy opportunities - draw assessment of ZATI’s interest and draw recommendations for exploring new avenues of collaborating
- Contributing inputs on to policy papers and substantive reports
- Highlight policy concerns/problems of ZATI/tourism industry and suggest ways to take these priorities forward
- Coordinating and following up via informal and formal contacts policy reform agenda
- Developing creative and innovative lobbying tactics in coordination with appropriate members of the coalition.
- Drafting and producing legislative reforms updates, and materials for advocacy, communications and media PPD approach, including briefing papers and other advocacy-oriented materials.
- On anticipation of possible advocacy developments and outcomes and preparing contingency plans and strategy adjustments (e.g. a bill/reform gets passed right before the consultations).
- Assist with coordination of advocacy communication and media campaigns and events.
- Maintaining and manage ZATI accounts and budgets, in line with the ZATI financial procedures, arranging monthly payments bills and taxes.
- Producing quarterly reports to be submitted to BEST-Dialogue on advocacy projects progress.
Qualifications and Experience
- Holders of university degree in marketing, Business Administration, Economics or any other related field. A minimum of two years’ experience working with a member based organization;
- Training in the field of Tourism industry or policy analysis will be an added advantage;
- Experience of at least 3 years working at mid-level position with either the public or private sector.
- Good analytical and interpretation skills;
- Proficiency in written and spoken English and Kiswahili;
- Computer; literacy, i.e. Word processing, spreadsheet and power point;
- Diligent, highly organized and self-motivating individual;
- A person with high integrity;
- Able to work under pressure to meet deadlines; and
- Excellent communication skills particularly in engaging with the public al sector in order to achieve results.
