Job description

The core functions of the Retail Manager will be to manage, maintain and develop relationships with Allied Mobiles white label retail partners. Responsible for the management of all retail
activities, taking overall responsibility for management and support of white label retail to ensure that all shops and entities in Tanzania are operating in their designated areas to achieve set income and profit targets. To assist store managers in creating a monthly store plan and drive the implementation of the plan in alignment with Allied Mobile strategies, ensuring continued growth and achievement for Sales revenue targets. Obtain profit contribution by managing retail staff; establishing and accomplishing business objectives. To lead and direct the operational day to day activities of the Tanzania retail business, driving the business to a new level of operational excellence, efficiency and effectiveness. To provide expert input and support to store managers regarding the overall management of their stores with regards to staff management, marketing and sales.

Retail Employees
  • Effectively recruit, induct, lead, manage, train and develop all Retail staff to agreed procedures and standards.
  • Ensure effective management of all retail stores and ensure adequate staffing levels.
  • Give support to all subordinates so they have opportunities to develop essential skills in their respective roles.
  • Ensure that all performance matters, and other issues within the retail space, are addressed in an appropriate and timely manner.
  • Uphold the reputation of Allied Mobile by maintaining high personal standards and projecting a warm, appreciative and welcoming attitude towards customers, and staff.
  • Effectively communicate requirements with various departments in the organization.
  • Promote a customer centric approach within the retail sector, investigating escalated complaints or issues of poor customer care, both timeously and efficiently.
  • Maintain and develop beneficial working relationships with other Allied Mobile departments to further the organisation’s objectives, including appropriate attendance at Management Team meetings when requested.
  • Take responsibility for personal and professional development.
  • Ensure Retail sector appraisals are completed as per the company policy.
Performance
  • Grow sales profit, and build models to achieve these goals.
  • Visit each store monthly providing input and assisting store managers in creating and reviewing the store plan and tactical strategies to achieve both sales and customer service targets.
  • Ensure that all processes and procedures implemented are aligned to the set operational framework and that they allow for the workflow to continue without interruption and that they reinforce the customer experience
  • Provide input into improving processes, systems and support in line with changing work practices
  • Monitor growth opportunities through competitor and industry analysis and feedback to business on such opportunities for further development.
  • Prioritise work to meet urgent escalated queries as arranged with the service level agreements in place.
  • Develop and grow a customer focus commercial operation including new shops to maximise available assets, advance planning. To ensure awareness and account for competition, retail sector trends and current trading opportunities.
  • As the Retail Manager for Tanzania, to develop, implement, review and monitoring the retail operating plan and budget.
  • To maintain, seek, utilise and analyse management information including POS (electronic point of sale) data to manage performance, seize opportunities and make informed management decisions, taking appropriate remedial action as required to reach and maintain retail budgeted sales and net income contributions and develop and drive the business.
  • To ensure all shops and regions are efficiently and effectively managed by monitoring their compliance with policy, procedure and standards.
  • Deliver on the KPI’s and adhere to the strategic imperatives of Allied Mobile
Product
  • Monitor stock in obsolesce, ensuring there are adequate supplies.
  • Identify methods of stock generation in conjunction with all relevant departments, and to respond to stock concerns where relevant.
Property
  • Working in conjunction with facilities, to carry out new shop site evaluations.
  • Working with retail partners, to ensure shop refits are carried out in accordance with national guidelines, meeting relevant time schedules, and ensuring shop standards are maintained on an ongoing basis.
  • Report on any suspicious behaviour that may suggest fraud and organised crime
  • Responsibility for maintaining shops to an acceptable standard, complying with both safety standards and planned preventative maintenance.
Procedures
  • Collate information and other statistical reports on shops’ progress, or action planning as required, ensuring timely and accurate reporting of all aspects of administration, following up issues of discrepancies as required.
  • Take responsibility of ensuring awareness and understanding of the retail Health and Safety.
  • Instigate and implement new policies and working practices in conjunction with Internal Audit and to undertake responsibility for ad-hoc initiatives, when approved by the Head of Retail.
  • Ensure policies, procedures, guidelines and legislation comply with the country’s jurisdiction.
  • Ensure the safety and security of people, stock, cash and property, implementing effective administration, POS, procedures and security systems throughout the shops in accordance with Allied Mobile guidelines.
  • Ensure that workflow continues without interruption
  • Continually improve existing processes and procedures to enhance effectiveness, efficiency and performance
  • Ensure all documentation is filed in a manner that is easily retrieval by any member of the team and meet the auditors’ requirements.
General
  • Undertake all mandatory training as required by Allied Mobile and participate in appropriate in-service training as and when required.
  • Maintaining the strict confidentiality of all information acquired.
  • Undertake an appraisal and personal development review as per the company policy and through self-development, continuously update and improve knowledge and competencies.
  • To be a co-operative and supportive member of Allied Mobile staff, ensuring that all members are aware of any issues in the post holder’s workload, which may affect other members of the Allied Mobile team.
  • Co-operating fully in the introduction of any new technology and new methods as appropriate.
  • Undertake any other relevant duties within the overall scope of this post as may be requested by the Head of Retail.
Job Competencies
  • Formal Degree in Marketing and Sales or equivalent.
  • At least 3 - 5 years retail management experience in retail or FMCG
  • Advanced Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft excel, Word, PowerPoint skills
  • Strong people skills

  • Staff Management and Motivational skills
  • An understanding of the retail and/or FMCG industry
