Maersk Line and Safmarine are represented by Nyota Tanzania Ltd in Tanzania and together represent 30% of the Tanzanian import and export market. There are 40 people
employed by Maersk Line and Safmarine in Tanzania and offices are located in Dar es Salaam, Zanzibar and Tanga. This position is also responsible for Rwanda, Burundi and Eastern DRC. Tanzania is a gateway to 7 landlocked countries and a key link to trade growth in the region. Around 25% of imports are destined for hinterland countries. Exports are largely mineral and agricultural-based, including metals, cotton, coffee, tobacco and fish. Imports are largely manufactured goods from all origins and outweigh exports with a factor of 3:1. Nyota Tanzania Ltd is part of the Eastern Africa Cluster, and co-ordinates strategy closely with the other countries in the cluster. Tanzania is a pleasant country to live in with a large expat community and facilities including top-notch international schools and leisure facilities.- To design and drive an effective commercial strategy in Tanzania.
- To drive growth and profitability for Maersk Line and Safmarine in Tanzania along with cost and efficiency improvements.
- To lead the organization ensuring all commercial, operational and financial targets are met.
- Continually manage key stakeholder and customer relations, cost and efficiency improvements in the Country.
- Execution in line with Must Win Battle Strategy and micro-battles.
- Managing company risks
- Drive performance management within the team structure to deliver the country’s performance scorecard.
- Execution in line with Must Win Battle Strategy, the local strategy implementation and commercial delivery in the geographical scope.
- Relentlessly drive the commercial pipeline, and sales standards in line with the company's commercial principles.
- Direct involvement in negotiations with key clients.
- Ensure the provision of frontline customer service that delivers an exemplary customer experience. Continued focus on Customer Care delivery.
- Constantly endeavour to standardize and optimize sales/customer service processes. Migrate to GSC global processes as and when deemed necessary.
- Liaise actively with the Cluster to ensure dynamic pricing achieved in line with yield/utilization targets.
- Ensure operations under country responsibility performs effectively in close liaison with TNM and the LOC.
- Assume dotted line responsibility for all Human Resource and Finance delivery despite the functional reporting line.
- Represent Maersk Line with all relevant stakeholders
- Lead and coach the organization (including pipeline and talent management).
- To effectively identify/attract/develop and deploy talent to meet both long/short term business targets.
- Previous broad management experience of at least 5 - 7 years
- Business related bachelor's degree
- Proven and demonstrated commercial competency with specific emphasis on sales and commercial management.
- Strong commercial and financial acumen.
- Excellent communication and decision making skills.
- Experience in cross functional leadership (i.e. general management) would be a plus.
- Proven experience within a complex and challenging environment.
- Ability to lead, motivate and engage a diverse and multicultural work force.
- On the ground experience within an African country would be highly beneficial.
- Demonstrated ability to work with and be comfortable with change.
- Proven ability to interact with senior management of various stakeholders incl. government bodies.
- Select leaders and optimize the organization.
- Align objectives with business strategy in order to ensure all agreed targets are met.
- Delegate and follow up.
- Coach and develop leaders on both leadership and functional expertise.
- Assess and hold direct reports accountable for both their leadership and performance.
- Manage boundaries and allocate resources between teams.
