Our Activities:
– Research and Consultancy (Including data management and business consulting)
– Carrying out social surveys and in-depth research on business and health matters to produce data to be used in designing appropriate and effective health &business interventions;
– Design and provide health education campaigns that can function as a mechanism for appropriate intervention in health problems;
– Conduct research and baseline studies/survey that will generate knowledge and increase understanding of factors that influence health, education, social, and economic development;
– Identify strategies that can be used to improve health and social welfare; provide financial education and training to rural societies
– Organize training workshops for socially disadvantaged social groups that impart skills, increase knowledge, and offer social and economic empowerment strategies;
– Design and implement interdisciplinary research activities that address critical issues in the areas of sustainable development and social justice;
Course Objectives
Data analysis for most researchers, project leaders, students is a complex process. The Stata/Nvivo training workshop will
• Provide skills in modern Data management to the participants to have clear understanding on their research outputs or implementation and project management.
• Provides an environment for one on one couching to data analysis.
• Equips people with hands on practical skills and experience to analyze qualitative data using Nvivo. Also demonstrates how to make meaning out of qualitative data.
Part I: Course highlights:- Stata statistical software
• Provides an environment on one to one couching on data analysis
• Describes data types, working with Stata commands and do files, browsing and editing data, logical and mathematical functions, survey data analysis, generating and exchanging variables
• Descriptive statistics
• Data graphics, histograms, scatter plots
• Basic hypothesis testing
• Practical methods for design and analysis of complex surveys, merging and appending data, regression analysis, survival analysis and mult-level models.
Part II: Course highlight- Nvivo
• Nvivo working environment and data management tools
• Importing content into Nvivo[text contents, social media content,video and audio]
• Organising qualitative data in Nvivo, creating themes, coding, nodes, categorization
• Data visualization, queries and reports
• Using induction and deduction to analyze data
Workshop tasks and deliverables
• Participants will be provided by the actual dataset for practical application using Stata. A key deliverable for this part is a short descriptive data analysis result from the data that will be shared during the workshop.
• Focus group discussions and Key informant interview transcripts from actual research will be available for participants to practice qualitative data coding in Nvivo.
Expected Outcomes
• Master how to work with Stata do files, gain practical skills in Stata commands and programming, gain competence in hands-on technical management analysis skills and generate data analysis reports based on actual research data
• Gain skills and expertise from qualitative data analyst and receive research coaching on the effective use of Nvivo using real research data examples. Import contents in Nvivo, code qualitative data, organize content and present qualitative data in tables, visual and graphics.
