Community Rehabilitation Worker (CRW) – Dar es Salaam
 
Com.sol is an Italian NGO founded in 2007 based in Rome (Italy).
It operates to promote networks of solidarity between North-South citizens and communities. Com.sol is active in
Tanzania since 2009, it focuses on actions in the fields of disability, education, agriculture and employability.
The interventions are planned to support vulnerable groups, especially children and people with disabilities, by promoting a Community based Rehabilitation (CBR) approach that implies activities of medical rehabilitation, economic empowerment, educational and social inclusion inside the communities to which the targeted people belong.
The interventions are developed to be replicated also in the surrounding areas, in collaboration with public and private local, Italian and international stakeholders, ensuring as much as possible sustainability.
In December 2016 Com.sol was awarded a grant from the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation for the implementation of a project entitled “ALL INCLUSIVE: A multi-sectoral initiative fostering the inclusion of people with disabilities within the Dar es Salaam community – 10922/CEFA/TZA”.
The ALL INCLUSIVE project is meant to improve the livelihoods of people with disabilities (PwDs) in Dar es Salaam through a holistic action based on a Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR) approach that combines medical rehabilitation, economic empowerment, social and educational inclusion.
Rehabilitation of PWDs, especially children, is one of the main goals of the proposed project, as demonstrated by the Action’s Expected Result 1 “To increase the Tanzanian health system’s effectiveness in addressing the challenges set by disability.”. In order to achieve such result, the proposed project foresees the construction of a Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR) Centre in Kawe District and the implementation of various services/activities that will be targeting PwDs, communities, health workers and local authorities mainly of Kinondoni Municipality.
JOB PROFILE
Position: Community Rehabilitation Worker (CRW)
Country: Tanzania
Duty station: Dar es Salaam
Duration: 12 months (renewable)
Starting date: May/June 2017
Reporting to: CBR Centre’s General manager and Vice-coordinator
Salary: to be defined according to qualifications and working experience
General competences:
The CRW will develop, in collaboration with the staff and supervisors, the activities of the Centre’s Health and Social rehabilitation Departments. He/she will have to ensure their timely implementation in accordance with the daily/weekly/monthly schedules.
The cooperation with the coordinators of specific activities is considered essential for the correct implementation of the activities.
Main tasks and activities:
The CRW has to perform activities pertaining to the Community Based Rehabilitation Centre with special emphasis on the following targeted areas:
·         Participate to plan daily outpatients and outreach activities in coordination with management, staff and secretary;
·         Participate in developing and reviewing Individual rehabilitation Plan (IRP), in collaboration with therapists and staff, according to the evaluations and objectives established by the team;
·         Perform individual or group treatments to patients according to their Individual Rehabilitation Plans, at the CBR Centre and/or during the home visiting service in the territory;
·         Train, assist and supervise parents/caregivers in treating their own children, according to the instructions and suggestions given, at the CBR Centre and/or during the home visiting service in the territory;
·         Collaborate and support psychologist and social worker in the developing and implementation of social department’s programs, oriented to the integration of the patient at the CBR Centre and/or in the communities;
·         Constant educating and advising patients and their caregivers about how to prevent and/or improve conditions;
·         Dissemination of information about disability (prevention, causes, rehabilitation treatments ...) to the communities, at the CBR Centre and/or on the territory;
·         Contribute in organizing and implementing, in collaboration with the staff, periodical awareness raising initiatives to involve the communities in the territory;
·         Plan, organize or attend, when required, training sessions for the staff, caregivers, families and other stakeholders involved in the Rehabilitation Centre’s program;
·         Collect inputs from the patients and communities to constantly improve the quality of the services provided;
·         Promote strategies for communities’ involvement to upgrade the quality of services delivered;
·         Liaising with other healthcare personnel to supply and receive relevant information about the background and progress of the patients;
·         Collecting and compiling daily/weekly/monthly report and files about the CBR Centre’s activities;
·         Updating registers (IRP, home visit files, school inclusion files, social inclusion files, children presence files, psychological counseling files etc) in collaboration with the staff;
·         Contribute to maintain good hygiene levels of individuals (patients), devices and working spaces;
·         Any other task assigned from management in order to improve efficiency and effectiveness for the CBR Centre.
OTHER TASKS
·         Taking care of the centre’s spaces and equipments available for the daily activities;
·         Collaborate with all the partners involved in the CBR centre, staff, local authorities, other stakeholders …;
·         Participate, when requested, to project’s coordination meetings organized by the leading agency and partners;
·         Any other activities assigned from the management, in order to increase efficiency and effectiveness of the CBR centre;
Skills and abilities required
Secondary school certificate or any qualifications matching with social/community development
 Ability to work in dynamic, multicultural environment by considering cultural and religious awareness and tolerance
Flexibility as situation demand
Self-discipline and punctuality at the working place
Good interpersonal skills and teamwork
Hygiene at the workplace
Fluency in written and spoken Swahili
Good capacity to produce reports
