The role of the Communication Unit (CU) is to support the development and implementation of the institute’s communication strategy in aid of realizing the institute’s strategic plan in strengthening leadership for sustainable development in Africa. The CU therefore plays a supporting function to the key departments of the Institution, namely;

CEO’s office, Research and Policy, and Capacity Building Department in achieving this goal.
The communications intern for UONGOZI Institute (UI) will therefore assist the Institute’s communications team in the day-to-day operations of the communications unit. He/She will work closely with UI’s Communications Officer and report
directly to the Communications Manager.
Scope of the assignment

  1.  Assist in frequently updating the Institution’s website
  2.  Assist in maintaining an online presence on Twitter, Facebook and Social Media
  3.  Updating email-list database
  4.  Assist in drafting news releases, media alerts and other communications materials for external stakeholders
  5.  Assist in maintaining internal communications
  6.  Assist in proofreading, fact-checking and editing communications materials
  7.  Assist in processing requisitions for goods/services provided by different vendors
  8.  Transcribing audio/video communication material
  9.  Assist in planning and organizing regional forums and exhibitions
  10.  Taking newsworthy photos at events and functions
  11.  Assist in branding at different UONGOZI events
  12.  Assist in performing print, broadcast and online media monitoring
  13.  Help to identify, plan, and implement new communication strategies, platforms and tactics
  14.  Assist in the compilation of stories for the Institutions newsletter
  15.  Supporting team during crisis management situations
  16. Expected outcome
  17.  Up-to-date email database of UI stakeholders
  18.  Frequently updated website and other online platforms such as Twitter and Facebook
  19.  Bank of transcribed audio/video communication material
  20. Qualifications of the Communications Intern
  21.  Must hold a BA in Mass Communications, Journalism, Public Relations , Marketing or any other related
  22. discipline
  23.  Possesses strong verbal and written communication skills, both in English and Swahili
  24.  Be able to operate a semi-professional camera
  25.  Digitally savvy - online/social/mobile
  26.  Proficiency in MS-Word, Excel and internet search tools
  27.  Have time managements skills and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team;
  28.  Is capable of multi-tasking in a fast-paced environment
  29.  Some volunteer experience preferred, although not required
  30. Duration:
  31.  The Communications Intern will be provided with an initial three months contract, which will be renewable upon
  32. the individual’s performance.
