Purpose Of The Position

To support coordination and provide backstopping to WVT education partners and education focal persons at cluster or AP levels in successful implementation of World Vision Education Technical Program. The Education Officer will also support monitoring, evaluation and research activities; promote quality assurance; strengthen linkages and information exchange between AP program staff, education partners/stakeholders and beneficiaries.
Major Responsibilities
  • Supportive Supervision
    • Coordinate and support WVT Education activities at AP level, by providing direct supervision and support to Education Focal person at AP level in matrix with the AP Coordinator.
    • Participate in monthly education sector planning meetings, quarterly and annual staff program meetings.
  • Implementation of Education Program Activities
    • Contribute to high level of WVT education program implementation, in collaboration with district education office, ward education offices and other key education stakeholders.
    • Identify training needs aimed at building capacity of Teachers, community and parents through regular monitoring of AP where education Technical Program is being implemented.
    • With support from Education Technical Team Leader work closely with Ward Education Officers, Head Teachers, Village Executive Officers and Community Mobilizers to support the establishment of reading camps in all APs where education is being implemented.
    • Support the District Education department and strengthen their capacity to progressively take on and manage Literacy Boost, Early Childhood Development Education and promotion of life skills intervention for sustainability.
  • Technical Support & Quality Assurance
    • Assist to coordinate required Literacy Boost trainings, supervision, follow-ups, etc. at the cluster, community and school levels in coordination with Education Team Leader.
    • Organize sessions designed for capacity building training at the cluster or AP levels to strengthen quality of literacy and promotion of life skills.
    • Communicate and address challenges and concerns from the district, ward and schools that affect implementation of education program activities in collaboration with WVT AP team manager.
  • Documentation, Monitoring and Reporting
    • Support the WVI Cluster DME in monitoring of education interventions in collaboration with District School Quality Assurance Officers and Ward Education Officers.
    • In collaboration with Cluster DME Support Officers at AP level, organize data collected from schools for easy access by relevant WVT officers when needed.
    • Collect Monthly education sector reports timely and any other education sector reports required by the program for submission to Education Team Leader and compilation.
    • Participate in project situation analysis, baseline survey, midterm reviews, final evaluation and studies conducted within the project as may be requested and planned by the DME.
    • Compile success stories from the education interventions and share with Education team leader for compilation.
    Qualifications: Education/Knowledge/Technical Skills and Experience
    The following may be acquired through a combination of formal or self-education, prior experience or on-the-job training:
    • Minimum Qualification required: University degree in Education, with a focus on Early Childhood, Primary Education or Teachers Education is preferred; or postgraduate degree in Education, Psychology, Curriculum Development, Teaching Methods or Education Administration and or Post Graduate Diploma in Education Administration is an added advantage.
    • Experience:
    • At least 3years of experience in education programming, with a focus on enhancing quality education and or literacy promotion preferred,
    • High level of experience in coordinating Literacy Boost activities,
    • Ability to organize training and skilled in preparing stakeholders meetings,
    • Effective and proficient communication in English and Kiswahili languages
    • Technical Skills & Abilities:
    • Excellent computer skills in Excel, Power Point.
    • Experience in managing donor funds
    • Good understanding of children’s rights and protection policy
    • Good planning and organizational skills
    • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with all levels of staff and public
    • Good Analytical skills necessary.
    • Experience in working with children especially vulnerable children.
    Working Environment / Conditions
    • Work environment: Office-based with very frequent travel to the field.
    • Travel: 80% Domestic travel may be required 10% of office work.

    • On call: 10%.
