Programme background

The Aga Khan Foundation (AKF) is a non-denominational, international development agency established in 1967 by His Highness the Aga Khan. Its mission is to develop and promote creative solutions to problems that impede development in marginalized and isolated regions. AKF is working in Tanzania in sectors that include rural development, education, health and civil society strengthening. The Coastal Rural Support Programme Tanzania, CRSP (T) is a multi-input area development initiative of AKF in Lindi and Mtwara regions. The programme’s overall goal is to improve the quality of life and social wellbeing of people in the two regions through sustainable interventions in agriculture and market development, access to finance, health, and education. CRSPT is a large programme with multiple grants being implemented in various sectors of its operations. It has close to 100 staff, most of whom are field based within Mtwara and Lindi regions.

RESPONSIBILITIES Reporting to the M&E Officer, the M&E Assistant will be responsible for assisting the overall implementation of the M&E systems and learning agenda of the HIP and SESEA projects. In addition, she/he will assist the project team to collect accurate data for utilisation in the overall project monitoring and learning agenda. The M&E assistant will work closely with the Health and Education Projects teams and will collaborate with the other M&E staff to ensure key information needs are streamlined into Health and Education to ensure effective use of M&E resources. Key responsibilities include

  Make follow up with program staff and stakeholders to ensure data collection tools are used appropriately and submitted on time.

 Assist in reviewing submitted data from the field to ensure its completeness and accuracy.

  Ensure accurate data entry and compilation of all data coming from program staff and stakeholders
 Ensure records of data collection tools and reports from field are filed and well organized.

 Assist in the implementation of outsourced quantitative and qualitative studies such as baseline surveys and follow up surveys as required by the programme.

 Assist in the implementation of in-house small scale qualitative and quantitative studies to fulfill AKF’s learning agenda in CRSPT.

  Travel to the field to conduct data verification and to support implementation of the M&E activities 2

  Fully contribute to translation-related work

 Any other work assignments as requested by the management team.


Qualifications/Experience: The successful candidate is expected to have:
  A degree in Development studies, Education, Social Sciences, Public health, Statistics or relevant field;
  At least two (2) years related work experience. Experience in M&E-related work will be an advantage
 Solid understanding of international and national development issues, particularly in the sectors relevant to AKF’s work in the country;
 Relevant experience in conducting field work and interacting with beneficiaries including
 Keen observation skills, analytical mind and attention to detail;
 Computer skills in Excel, Word processing, Database management, SPSS or other statistical packages;
  Willingness to participate in field activities/surveys and travel to remote areas;
  Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Swahili.
 Willingness to live in southern Tanzania, Lindi.
